IELTS Speaking 2025 Part 1: Sitting

1. Do you often have to sit for long periods of time? (Why/Why not?)

  • Useful expressions:
    • Unfortunately, yes, because…”
    • It can be quite uncomfortable, especially when…”
    • I try to take breaks by…”
  • Sample answer:
    • Unfortunately, yes, because my work and studies require me to sit in front of a computer for long hours. It can be quite uncomfortable, especially when I don’t have a good chair or if I sit for too long without moving. I try to take breaks by standing up, stretching, or walking around every hour, but sometimes I get too focused and forget.

2. When you were a child, did you like sitting on the floor? (Why/Why not?)

  • Useful expressions:
    • I remember sitting on the floor a lot because…”
    • It was more comfortable for me than…”
    • I especially liked sitting on the floor when…”
  • Sample answer:
    • Yes, I remember sitting on the floor a lot because I loved playing with my toys, drawing, or watching TV. It was more comfortable for me than sitting on a chair because I could move around easily. I especially liked sitting on the floor when I was playing with friends or eating snacks in front of the TV.

3. Can you easily fall asleep when you are sitting in a chair? (Why/Why not?)

  • Useful expressions:
    • It depends on…”
    • If I’m really tired, I can…”
    • But in general, I find it hard because…”
  • Sample answer:
    • It depends on the situation. If I’m really tired, I can fall asleep even while sitting in a chair, especially on a long bus or plane ride. But in general, I find it hard because I like to lie down to sleep properly. Sitting makes it uncomfortable, and my neck starts to hurt after a while.

4. Do you have a favourite place where you like to sit? (Why/Why not?)

  • Useful expressions:
    • My favorite place to sit is…”
    • I love it because…”
    • It’s the perfect spot for…”
  • Sample answer:
    • My favorite place to sit is by the window in my room. I love it because I can look outside, relax, and enjoy a cup of tea. It’s the perfect spot for reading, listening to music, or just thinking. It helps me feel calm and comfortable.
