3. Sample Answer
My go-to example is the time I ended up teaching my aunt how to use an e-wallet app—specifically MoMo—to pay her electricity bills online. She’s in her late fifties and a bit tech-phobic, but we’re really tight, so she trusted me to help.
At first, I walked her through the basics: downloading the app, creating an account, and linking her bank card. Step by step, we tackled each screen. I deliberately broke it down into bite-sized chunks, like “First, tap here to verify your phone number,” then “Now, enter the OTP.” We even did a quick screen-share on Zalo so I could see exactly where she got stuck. Honestly, after some trial and error, we had a few laughs because she kept pressing the home button instead of ‘Confirm’. But then there was this real light-bulb moment—her eyes widened and she said, “À, hiểu rồi!” when the transaction went through and the receipt popped up.
From there, everything finally clicked. She practiced a second payment by herself—just a tiny phone top-up—and nailed it. She even jotted things down in a notebook in case she forgot the steps. To my surprise, the result was beyond my expectations: not only could she pay bills, she also figured out how to send lucky money (lì xì) during Tet through the app. Talk about progress!
As for me, I was over the moon. It felt surprisingly rewarding, like my patience genuinely paid off. More than that, I felt a sense of accomplishment because I helped her become a bit more independent with technology. She didn’t have to queue at the utility office anymore. Plus, it strengthened our bond—now she keeps bragging to her friends that her nephew is her “IT support hotline.” In the end, the whole experience reminded me that teaching isn’t just about knowledge transfer; it’s about empathy, pacing, and celebrating small wins together.
