Sample Answer
To be honest, the childhood friend I remember most clearly is Nam, my next‑door neighbor. You know, back in the day, our houses were practically connected, so we spent almost every afternoon together. We were like two peas in a pod, always showing up at each other’s doors with some new “mission” for the day. A lot of the time we’d ride rusty bicycles around the alley, pretending they were motorbikes, and then stop at the after‑school snack stalls to split a bag of bánh tráng trộn because we were always broke.
On weekends, we’d head to a makeshift football pitch behind the local temple. It was just a dusty patch of ground with two rocks as goalposts, but to us it felt like a World Cup stadium. We also loved to trade comic books—Doraemon, Dragon Ball—you name it. What really stuck with me is how generous he was: if I couldn’t afford the newest issue, he’d lend me his without thinking twice.
There was this one rainy afternoon when the power went out; we lit candles and told ghost stories until we got too scared and ended up laughing our heads off. I’ll never forget that feeling of absolute freedom—no phones, no homework stress, just pure fun. I liked Nam because he was loyal and kind; even when we argued, he’d be the first to apologize. That kind of sincerity is rare, and it shaped how I choose friends even now. In short, he wasn’t just a buddy—he was family. What really stuck with me is how he always had my back, and that’s why those memories still feel so fresh.
IELTS Speaking Part 3 Questions
-
Do you still keep in touch with your childhood friends? Why or why not?
-
What do you think about online social media?
-
Do you think online communication will replace face‑to‑face interaction?
-
How important are childhood friendships for children?
Question 1
Speaking Expressions:
-
Honestly speaking… (Thật lòng mà nói…)
-
Life gets in the way… (Cuộc sống bận rộn cản trở…)
-
We’ve drifted apart a bit… (Chúng tôi xa cách chút ít…)
Ideas & Collocations:
-
Keep in touch (giữ liên lạc)
-
Monthly catch‑up call (cuộc gọi cập nhật hàng tháng)
-
Group chat (nhóm chat)
Sample Answer:
“Honestly speaking, I still keep in touch with a couple of them, but life gets in the way sometimes. We’ve drifted apart a bit since everyone moved for work or got married. That said, we have a group chat where we drop memes and updates, and once in a while we do a monthly catch‑up call. It’s not as constant as before, but the bond is still there. When we meet, it feels like no time has passed.”
Question 2
Speaking Expressions:
-
Personally, I feel… (Cá nhân tôi thấy…)
-
It’s a double‑edged sword… (Con dao hai lưỡi…)
-
On the bright side… (Nhìn ở mặt tích cực…)
Ideas & Collocations:
-
Digital footprint (dấu vết số)
-
Echo chamber effect (hiệu ứng buồng vọng)
-
Instant connectivity (kết nối tức thì)
Sample Answer:
“Personally, I feel social media is a double‑edged sword. On the bright side, it gives us instant connectivity—I can message friends abroad in a second. But the echo chamber effect and a messy digital footprint can be real problems if you’re not careful. I try to curate my feed and limit my screen time. Used wisely, it’s great; abused, it’s toxic.”
Question 3
Speaking Expressions:
-
In my opinion… (Theo tôi…)
-
Nothing can replace… (Không gì có thể thay thế…)
-
That said… (Nói vậy nhưng…)
Ideas & Collocations:
-
Human touch (sự tương tác trực tiếp)
-
Non‑verbal cues (tín hiệu phi ngôn ngữ)
-
Hybrid communication (giao tiếp kết hợp)
Sample Answer:
“In my opinion, nothing can replace the human touch of a face‑to‑face chat. You pick up on non‑verbal cues—eye contact, body language—that a text or Zoom call just can’t deliver. That said, I do think hybrid communication is here to stay: we’ll mix online tools for convenience and meet in person when it matters. So, replace? No. Complement? Definitely.”
Question 4
Speaking Expressions:
-
Without a doubt… (Không nghi ngờ gì…)
-
It lays the groundwork… (Nó đặt nền tảng…)
-
Long‑lasting impact… (Ảnh hưởng lâu dài…)
Ideas & Collocations:
-
Social skills development (phát triển kỹ năng xã hội)
-
Emotional support network (mạng lưới hỗ trợ cảm xúc)
-
Sense of belonging (cảm giác thuộc về)
Sample Answer:
“Without a doubt, childhood friendships are crucial because they lay the groundwork for social skills development. Kids learn to share, to say sorry, and to stand up for themselves. Those early buddies also become an emotional support network, giving them a sense of belonging outside the family. The lessons stick; the long‑lasting impact can shape how they trust and relate to others as adults.”
