IELTS Speaking Part 1: MORNING TIME and HOUSEWORK & COOKING

Here are some common questions that you may be asked in the IELTS Speaking Exam.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Look at the question carefully and think about some ideas for this.
  2. Pay atttention to suggested ideas to see whether they can help build up your answers.
  3. Try to use the phrases provided to structure your answers in the more appropriate way.
  4. Answer the question.
  5. Read the sample answer at the end to see what you can learn from it.
  6. Learn some useful vocabulary related to the topic.

 

MORNING TIME

1. What time do you usually wake up in the morning?

– Ideas: You might wake up early, late, or at a specific time each day. Think about the time that you typically wake up in the morning.

– Useful phrases: “I usually wake up at [time] in the morning…”, “Waking up early allows me to [activity or purpose]…”, “Although I sometimes wake up late, I prefer to wake up early so that I can [activity or purpose]…”

2. What is your morning routine?

– Ideas: You might have a routine that includes activities such as exercising, showering, or having breakfast. Think about the activities that you typically do in the morning.

– Useful phrases: “My morning routine includes…”, “I find that [activity] is a great way to start the day…”, “Although I try to stick to a routine, sometimes I mix up my morning activities by [activity or task]…”

3. What is your favorite morning activity?

– Ideas: You might enjoy activities such as reading, meditating, or going for a walk in the morning. Think about the activity that you enjoy the most in the morning.

– Useful phrases: “My favorite morning activity is…”, “I find that doing [activity] in the morning helps me feel more [adjective]…”, “Although I sometimes skip my favorite morning activity, I try to make time for it when I can…”

4. How do you feel in the morning?

– Ideas: You might feel energized, groggy, or refreshed in the morning, depending on your sleep and mood. Think about how you typically feel in the morning.

– Useful phrases: “In the morning, I usually feel…”, “I find that [activity or task] helps me feel more [adjective] in the morning…”, “Although I sometimes feel [adjective] in the morning, I try to do [activity or task] to improve my mood…”

5. What do you usually eat for breakfast?

– Ideas: You might have a specific breakfast routine that includes foods such as cereal, eggs, or toast. Think about the types of food that you typically consume for breakfast.

– Useful phrases: “For breakfast, I usually eat…”, “I find that [type of food] is a great way to start the day because…”, “Although I try to eat healthy for breakfast, sometimes I indulge in [type of food]…”

6. Do you think morning or night is the best time of day?

– Ideas: You might have a preference for morning or night, depending on your schedule and personal preferences. Think about the advantages and disadvantages of each time of day.

– Useful phrases: “I think that morning is the best time of day because…”, “Although I sometimes enjoy staying up late, I prefer the calmness and productivity of the morning…”, “Although there are benefits to both morning and night, I find that I’m more [adjective] in the morning…”

 

HOUSEWORK AND COOKING

1. Do you like cooking?

– Ideas: You might enjoy cooking because it’s creative, enjoyable, or relaxing. Think about the reasons why you like cooking.

– Useful phrases: “Yes, I like cooking…”, “Cooking is [adjective] to me because…”, “I find that cooking helps me feel more [adjective]…”

2. How often do you cook?

– Ideas: You might cook daily, weekly, or occasionally. Think about the frequency with which you typically cook.

– Useful phrases: “I cook [frequency]…”, “I find that cooking [activity or purpose]…”, “Although I don’t always have time to cook, I try to make time for [type of cuisine or dish] when I can…”

3. Do you like doing housework?

– Ideas: You might enjoy doing housework because it’s therapeutic, satisfying, or necessary. Think about the reasons why you like doing housework.

– Useful phrases: “Yes, I like doing housework…”, “Housework is [adjective] to me because…”, “I find that doing housework helps me feel more [adjective]…”

4. What is your favorite household chore?

– Ideas: You might enjoy chores such as washing dishes, doing laundry, or cleaning the bathroom. Think about the chore that you enjoy the most.

– Useful phrases: “My favorite household chore is…”, “I find that doing [chore] is a good way to [activity or purpose]…”, “Although I don’t always enjoy doing housework, I find that [chore] is [adjective] and [adjective]…”

5. How do you usually divide household chores in your family?

– Ideas: Your family might have a system for dividing household chores based on age, gender, or preference. Think about the way that household chores are typically divided in your family.

– Useful phrases: “In my family, we divide household chores by…”, “I think that this system works well because…”, “Although there are different ways to divide household chores, I find that [system or approach] is effective…”

6. What kind of food do you like to cook?

– Ideas: You might enjoy cooking food such as Italian, Chinese, or Indian cuisine. Think about the types of food that you like to cook.
